We’re an independent financial advice company based in Blackburn, Lancashire, serving clients in Central and East Lancashire. Our aim is to help with any financial confusion you may have surrounding life’s major events.

When Peter, our founder and managing director, was just 12 years old, his Dad died. Peter’s Mum had always been a housewife and had no experience of financial matters. In fact, she didn’t know at that stage how to write a cheque.

At that incredibly traumatic time for both of them, a local financial adviser worked with Peter’s Mum and helped her to understand her financial situation. He also helped Peter and his Mum to plan for their future.

As Peter himself said, “I have no doubt that the advice provided by this financial professional at what was an emotional and difficult time in both our lives, enabled us to have a much better life than we would otherwise have had.

About Peter

Peter has worked in financial services since 1988, working as an independent financial adviser since 2000.

The reason he began working in financial services was to help others, just as his Mum’s financial adviser had helped his family many years earlier.

After over 30 years working in financial services, he has gained the knowledge, experience and qualifications to help his clients no matter their situation.

Peter’s focus is to provide an excellent service to his clients, to make sure they are well looked after as they go through life. He has had the privilege of working with some of his clients for over 20 years. During this time, he has shared their life’s ups and downs, and guided and supported them in any way he can.

The team

Peter’s wife, Kathryn, joined the company in August 2017, after previously working for banks and energy companies. Kathryn provides valuable administrative support which means Peter can concentrate on the planning process and meeting with new and existing clients.

It is likely to be Kathryn who answers the phone when you ring the office. Kathryn will also contact you to arrange meetings and will send you any pre-meeting documents.

In our free time

Peter and Kathryn are both active members of their local Methodist church. Peter plays the keyboard, while Kathryn prepares the PowerPoint™ slides of hymns, Bible readings etc for projection during services.

Peter started playing the piano when he was three years old. He also loves listening to an eclectic mix of music, from Jean-Michel Jarre to Abba.

Peter and Kathryn regularly visit Manchester and Salford, for classical concerts and musical theatre performances. Spending time with family and friends is important to both of them. They make regular trips to Nottingham to visit Kathryn’s family.

Dementia Friends

As a company, APW Financial Planning Limited are active supporters of the Alzheimer’s Society initiative, Dementia Friends. Peter’s Mum had dementia and they know first-hand the effects that this condition had on her, her friends and her family.

The National Trust

Peter and Kathryn enjoy visiting National Trust properties, as Peter is a life member of this charity.
